Maison Pawz Cattery is a CFA-registered Persian cattery (Cattery No. 403267) based in Bowie, Maryland. We wrote this guide because we got tired of answering the same handful of questions in one-off emails, and because a cat this particular deserves an owner — or a breeder — who actually knows what they're taking on before the kitten comes home, not after.
It's one document for two different people, because we've noticed almost everyone who falls for Persians eventually lands on the same fork in the road: should I try breeding? For most, the honest answer is a happy no. One well-loved house Persian is plenty, and Part II was written for exactly that reader. For a smaller number the answer turns into yes, and Part III walks through what that actually costs — in dollars, in 3 a.m. phone calls, in grief — without the gloss most breeder marketing puts on it.
None of this is meant to gatekeep anyone out of the breed. It exists to save you from the two ways we watch new owners and new breeders get hurt, over and over: not knowing what a healthy Persian actually needs on an ordinary Tuesday, and underestimating what a breeding program actually costs in money, time, and heart. Read what applies to you, skim the rest, and come back when it starts to matter.
